Tonight’s French Connections concert sees Celtic Colours returning to the Acadian community of Petit-de-Grat, and La Picasse Centre Communautaire Culturel, for the first time since 2008. Coincidentally, it’s been that long since world-travelling Quebec band Genticorum played at the Festival. Known for their energy and stage presence, but also for their refined and precisely executed arrangements, the group has performed nearly two thousand concerts in twenty countries over their twenty-two year career. The pleasure these three musicians have in playing and creating together is palpable, both on stage and on record. Award-winning sibling trio The Gilberts are back at Celtic Colours for the third time with their emotionally-impactful songs and arrangements, infused with choral, Celtic, and country influences. Richmond County native Allie Mombourquette is a fiddler, step dancer and composer from nearby L’Ardoise who has shared the stage with many incredible artists including Natalie MacMaster, J.P. Cormier, and Terry Kelly. Allie’s passion for sharing Acadian and Cape Breton culture is evident in her performances. Bradley Murphy is a Gaelic singer, fiddler, and piano player from East Bay, Cape Breton County who proudly showcases the relevance, beauty, and power of traditional songs and melodies, passed down carefully through family and community tradition. And it wouldn’t be a proper Acadian Saturday night without some dancing and local group Les pieds au vol are on hand to take care of that.
