Since being added to the Celtic Colours lineup in 2022, the L'Arche Cape Breton Gathering Place is proving to be a popular place to get together for a mid-week afternoon of music. You’ll find the venue west of Whycocomagh, just off the Trans-Canada Highway on the way to Orangedale. Today’s matinee features a Canadian icon, a last blast of tunes from a critically-acclaimed Scottish folk quartet, and some songs from a popular local duo. Singer-songwriter Valdy is a cherished figure in Canadian folk music. He has enjoyed a decades-long career, sparked by his well-known hits “Play Me A Rock’n’Roll Song” and “Yes I Can” , among many others. A member of the Order of Canada, V aldy has sold almost half a million copies of his 16 albums, has two Juno Awards, and four Gold albums to his credit. Any afternoon is a good afternoon for some tunes in Cape Breton. And Westward The Light is all set to delight us one more time with their unique arrangements and innovative, traditionally-rooted sound before they wrap up their first visit to Celtic Colours. Singer-songwriter Lisa Cameron was raised among a musical family in Margaree Forks. A regular at local venues with her husband, Vern MacDougall, Lisa has released three albums of original songs and is known for her dulcet, melodic tone, creative arrangements, and ability to engage audiences with her charming and intimate performance style.
