Pjila’si means welcome in Mi’kmaq, and Wagmatcook, like all First Nations communities of Cape Breton, has always been a very welcoming one. This will be evident when the Mi’kmaw Singers & Dancers extend a warm welcome to start the night off right with song, dance, and drumming. Tonight’s concert also welcomes Alex Kusturok, a Métis fiddler from Manitoba who counts Cape Breton and Quebecois fiddle styles among his influences. The Celtic Colours first- timer is excited to be teamed up with Cape Breton icon Brenda Stubbert, who has played with, and composed a tune for, his mother Champion fiddler Patti Kusturok. Darrell Keigan is a well-established and engaging singer around Cape Breton who embodies the spirit of the bard with his entertaining repertoire of songs and stories. Topping it all off is award-winning, world- travelling Cape Breton supergroup Còig. Be prepared for a night of songs, tunes, steps, and laughs with this bunch.
