The story of the Gaelic College starts in 1938 when A.W.R. MacKenzie and community members wanted to create a memorial for the Gaelic pioneers of Cape Breton. Classes were taught on the Gaelic language, grammar, songs, history and music. Eighty years later and Colaisde Na Gàidhlig is as strong as ever. Today we’ll celebrate 80 years with College CEO Rodney MacDonald and his cousin Glenn Graham who will have your feet tapping. Nova Scotia native Matt MacIsaac will be on hand to represent the College’s long standing history of award-winning pipe bands and Dr. Ellen MacPhee, a student then a teacher at the College, will bring along her border pipes. Haliee LeFort, one the newest employees, along with Mac Morin, Patrick Gillis and Cailean MacLean, no strangers to the Hall of the Clans, will round out this afternoon on St. Ann’s Bay. Suas e!
