Go back in time this evening as one of the Festival’s most popular concerts invites you to Step into the Past at the Fortress of Louisbourg. The Fortress, North America’s largest historical reconstruction, offers a glimpse of life in colonial Cape Breton around the 1740s. If you are fortunate enough to get a ticket to this perennially sold out show, you are in for a real treat. The evening begins with an authentic, traditional 18th century meal, served in period costume and character by candlelight. An after-dinner walk, guided by the glow of lanterns through the cobbled streets, takes you to the lovely chapel in the King’s Bastion for a night of acoustic songs and tunes. Nipper MacLeod, a former coal miner from New Waterford and a lead singer with the Men of the Deeps, is sure to share some of his many mining and Cape Breton songs. We’ll be treated to some pipes and harp from David Power and Triona Marshall while Andrea Beaton and Véronique Plasse will contribute some fiddle tunes to this unique experience.
