Now here’s a ceilidh worthy of being named for the landmark fiddle just outside the venue. Blazin’ Fiddles has been showcasing Scotland’s regional fiddle styles for 20 years, with each member of the group drawing on the distinct flavour of music from their part of the Highlands and Islands. The award-winning, six-piece ensemble captures Scottish fiddle music’s variety, energy and sensitivity like no other band. Tonight is their last appearance at Celtic Colours this year, so don’t miss out! This is also Còig’s last night at this year’s Festival. The Cape Breton supergroup has been on a roll since releasing their first album four years ago, collecting awards and attracting rave reviews wherever they play. Còig also features regional influences in their fiddle-playing, through Chrissy Crowley’s Margaree roots and Rachel Davis’ background in Baddeck. Cape Bretoners have a tradition of pulling a lot of fiddles together, and tonight’s concert continues that tradition along with some tunes from the newly-formed Cape Breton University Pipe Band, and some songs from the lovely and talented Fiona MacGillivray.
