Local Acadian trio Les Zorvenants welcomes folks from Louisiana, Finland, and southwestern Nova Scotia for this evening of music-making and merriment in Chéticamp. Les Zorvenants have deep roots in this area and have been coming together as a group for almost 15 years to share their Acadian community’s traditional songs and the stories behind them. The Savoy Family Cajun Band also has deep Acadian roots, albeit in the sense that Cajun music is rooted in the ballads of the French-speaking Acadians who resettled in the southern United States after expulsion from L’Acadie in the mid-1700s. Known as Le Grand Dérangement (Great Expulsion), many Acadians were forcibly removed from mainland Nova Scotia, home of the young, progressive-folk group Cy. The fiddles of Teho, and their high-spirited, traditionally-rooted, boundary-breaking music will bring this evening party together nicely.
