Of all the venues around the Island that host Celtic Colours concerts, Louisbourg Playhouse comes closest to feeling like a cozy kitchen party, with its good-time house party vibe, right down to the tea and homemade oatcakes served during intermission. It’s a very homey setting for musicians who are so true to their roots, and down-to-earth themselves. But once you hear the music they make, each and every one of these groups will have you shaking your head in wonder. And although their roots are fairly scattered—from Quebec to Nova Scotia to Louisiana—they share in common an interest in preserving the heritage of their music and ensuring its place among the folk musics of the world. With the hard-core Cajun sounds of the Savoy Family Cajun Band, the Cape Breton-Quebecois mix of Andrea and Véronique, and Cy’s traditional- progressive-folk, influenced by the Acadian coast of southwestern Nova Scotia, you’re in for one heck of a house party tonight.
