St. Peter’s has a long and influential history—from a 16th century Portuguese fishing and trading post, to the fortified French settlement established in the 1600s, to the eventual founding of the Village of St. Peter’s—as a British colony—in the early 1800s and the building of the St. Peter’s Canal. And then, in 2002, the historic village became a valued partner of Celtic Colours, hosting concerts and cultural events and sharing their warm hospitality ever since. Tonight we’ll hear multiple award-winning East Coast string-masters J.P. Cormier and Ray Legere; tunes from the Scottish-Gaelic Highland and Island pipes and whistle tradition with Brighde Chaimbeul and Ross Ainslie, accompanied by Stevie Byrnes; and songs, steeped in the harmony-rich folk style, influenced by Irish traditional music, Appalachian singing, and the 1960’s folk revival, from Irish trio Ye Vagabonds. Join us as we welcome these artists who’ve traveled across land and sea to play for you tonight in the village by the canal.
