Ashley MacIsaac rose to national acclaim in the 1990s, thanks to a deep foundation in traditional Cape Breton fiddling, piano, and dance, and an appetite for experimentation. In the process, he became one of the world’s favourite Cape Breton fiddlers. Tonight Ashley will share some of his favourites. It’s no secret that he loves playing with legendary piano-player Maybelle Chisholm McQueen. Joe MacMaster is an impressive young fiddler, piper and composer who Ashley has called “the newest powerhouse of Route 19”, and fiddlers Rodney MacDonald and Glenn Graham are Route 19 contemporaries. While a powerhouse on piano himself, Ashley can’t play fiddle and piano at the same time, so he’ll be joined by Mac Morin, Chris Babineau, Phamie Gow and Kolten MacDonell on various instruments.
