Nestled along the south east shore of the Bras d'Or Lake, Big Pond is famous for outdoor festivals, award-winning musicians, and some of the prettiest scenery on the Island. It’s a place where you’ll experience the most generous and welcoming hospitality. And there will be music. There is always music. Tonight’s players come from near and far for some tunes—from Big Pond and Inverness county, Westmount, Boularderie Island, and Ireland. This concert will introduce Bríd Harper to Celtic Colours audiences. One of the leading Irish traditional fiddle players of the last forty years, Bríd is paired with Dermot Byrne of influential Irish band Altan, who is revered in his own right for his virtuosity on the accordion and melodeon. It will be fun to see them share the stage with Howie MacDonald. The always-entertaining fiddler will be joined by talented piano player Beverly MacLean and Big Pond’s own Calum MacPhee on guitar. Keith MacDonald is also playing near home today, having recently relocated from Inverness county. The highland pipe and guitar player and his brothers, Kyle on fiddle and Colin on piano, will bring some Inverness county vibes to Big Pond’s famous fire hall.
