It’s no secret that some of Cape Breton’s finest dancers come from the culturally-rich and vibrant Acadian community of Chéticamp. This is where the famous southeast winds, known as les suêtes, blow strong onshore, and where local dance troupe La Swing du Suête has kept their dance tradition strong for more than 20 years. And wherever on Cape Breton there is a strong tradition of dancing, you can depend on there being an equally high-level of players playing the tunes. The hometown dancers are the anchor of this afternoon concert which will also feature some lively tunes performed by Chester Delaney, Robert Deveaux and Martin Aucoin from the area, and local fiddlers Chrissy Crowley, Colin Grant, with Chéticamp-natives Jason Roach on piano, and Chris Babineau on guitar. Throw in the joyful onstage abandonment of award-winning Prince Edward Island fiddler Gordie MacKeeman—who happens to be quite the dancer himself—and his Rhythm Boys, and this is sure to be a show to rival the energy of the famous suêtes themselves! Hosted by Conseil des Arts de Chéticamp
NEARBY MEALS: Acadian Community Meal and Acadian Culinary Experience at The Mi-Carême Center.
