Since debuting at the Festival in 2015, Mec Lir’s infectious brand of “trad pop” has had Celtic Colours audiences on their feet every time they play. The Isle of Man / Glasgow-based band plays fast. They’re tight. And even with the backing of outrageous synth and drums, they keep the fiddle melody at the core of what they do. The quartet has added button accordion to the lineup since they were here last and we just can’t wait to check that out. Fiddler Katie McNally and piano player Neil Pearlman performed at Celtic Colours in 2019 with the band Fàrsan. They’ve returned this year as Pine Tree Flyers, with Emily Troll on accordion and Owen Marshall on guitar. Dedicated to ensuring that New England music is recognized as a distinct and vital American tradition, the Portland, Maine-based group shines a renewed light on the tunes of the Northeast with excitement and respect. Cape Breton singer-songwriter Steve MacIntyre completes the lineup for tonight’s pub night.
