On any given weekend around Cape Breton Island, you are likely to find jovial get -togethers in kitchens, community centres, and firehalls with tunes flying, laughter rumbling, and stories being shared. Whether you’re a regular or this is your first time, you’re in for a classic Cape Breton Saturday night. Big Pond is a community with a rich legacy of traditional tunes and celebrated songwriters. This evening's concert reflects that legacy with an exciting lineup of versatile performers. Gaelic, English, and French traditional and modern songs, as well as original and well-known tunes from Scotland, Ireland, North America, Scandinavia, and Cape Breton will come together for an evening you won’t soon forget. You’ll be transported by the songs and guitar-playing of Dublin-born, North Carolina resident John Doyle. Accordionist, guitarist, and player of pocket-sized instruments Mary Beth Carty is a true entertainer who will have you on the edge of your seat, with Colin Grant and Bradley Murphy along for the ride. And Jocelyn Pettit and Ellen Gira’s playful interaction of fiddle and cello will unite the west coast of Canada with the east coast of the U.S. along the shores of the Bras d'Or tonight .
