The beauty of Cape Breton Island needs little explanation, but we are always happy to talk about it. This matinee will allow Festival-goers to take in stunning vistas of the Island from an area with a view of all four counties. Rich in Gaelic heritage, the Iona area has maintained close ties to the roots of its Scottish settlers, and Baile nan Gàidheal / the Highland Village has played an important role in maintaining that cultural heritage. Today’s concert in the small, wooden Malagawatch Church, positioned high on the hill at the Village, is the perfect setting for an afternoon of music with Scottish multi-instrumentalist Malin Lewis and Gaelic singer and poet Lewis MacKinnon from Antigonish County. Sisters Dawn and Margie Beaton, and piano-player Ceila Cameron will add some tunes and a few steps in Ceila’s Celtic Colours debut. Today’s concert will remind us all there’s so much more to this beautiful island than just the scenery.
