The rolling hills of the Cape Breton Highlands make for some of the most stunning views in the world. Situated north of Cape Smokey on the iconic Cabot Trail, this scenic drive and treasure trove of music has the makings of the trip of a lifetime. The St. Peter’s Parish Church in Ingonish has been witness to many memorable moments in its more than 100-year history. And memories are sure to be made again tonight in this beautiful old church as the Highlands come to life with the sounds of fiddle, guitar, melodeon, piano, and song. With the strong Irish roots in Ingonish, it is only fitting that Ireland’s renowned Iarla Ó Lionáird makes his Celtic Colours debut here tonight with the familiar figure of Tim Edey by his side, mixing their deeply rooted traditional styles. Mairi Rankin, Wendy MacIsaac, and Mac Morin will form a trio for the evening, delighting you with Cape Breton jigs and reels, a few steps, and maybe a laugh or two. Richmond County natives Roger Stone and Leona Burkey performed as a duo at the Festival last year and they’re back again, blending their masterful musicianship and hometown harmonies for a double shot of Cape Breton troubadour charm tonight north of Smokey.
