Cape Breton’s Mira River is known worldwide for its beauty and the hospitality associated with the surrounding area. Making music is an age-old tradition along the river, where there’s always time for a cup of tea, or something a little stronger, and a lively exchange of songs, tunes, stories, and laughter. This afternoon’s concert will include all of that, performed at a level to match the beauty the surroundings. Legendary Cape Breton fiddler Cameron Chisholm returns to the Festival this year accompanied on piano by Cathy Hawley who has played with some of the best, from Ashley MacIsaac to Winston “Scotty” Fitzgerald. Nipper MacLeod, a featured soloist with The Men of the Deeps, is bound to have a funny story or two in his repertoire of beloved Cape Breton, Irish, and Scottish songs. And Irish trio Tara Breen, Padraig Rynne, and Jim Murray will close out their visit to Celtic Colours with another dazzling display of musicianship. If you haven’t found your way down to the iconic Mira River yet, now is your chance to scratch it off your bucket list. Allister MacGillivray didn’t write a famous song about it for nothing.
