If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for this perennially sold-out concert, you’re in for a real treat. Step into the Past is a unique experience that transports you back in time to offer a glimpse at life in colonial Cape Breton around the 1740s at North America’s largest historical reconstruction, the Fortress of Louisbourg. The evening begins with an authentic, traditional 18th century meal, served in period costume and character by candlelight. An after-dinner stroll, guided by the glow of lanterns through the cobbled streets of the reconstructed town, takes you to an acoustic concert at the enchanting chapel in the King’s Bastion. Set against the beautiful candlelit backdrop of this historic chapel, Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne will regale those gathered with their instrumental prowess and humorous repartee as they cover a broad spectrum of Newfoundland culture including songs, stories, and dance tunes. Renowned Scottish Gaelic singer Cathy Ann MacPhee’s powerful voice will ring out in this historic setting, and celebrated Cape Breton fiddler and composer Brenda Stubbert, accompanied by Blanche Sophocleous, will have your toes tapping. True to its time, this beautifully unique venue has neither central heating nor electricity. So dress warmly for this very special, one-of-a-kind Celtic Colours experience.
