Almost fifty years ago, master guitarist, singer, and songwriter Archie Fisher recorded his first album in America, after establishing himself in the folk music scene at home in Scotland. The Man with a Rhyme’s liner notes described Archie as “exemplifying all that is good about the folk song revival”, praising his “deep respect for the older musical traditions of his native Scotland” and his ability to approach these traditions creatively. The write-up suggested that his freshly-composed song, “The Witch of the West-mer-lands”, could easily assume a place among the classic ballads compiled during the last century. Now all these years later, every bit of it still rings true. Archie has been performing at Celtic Colours since 1998 and we are very pleased to feature him in concert this year. Known as Scotland’s foremost troubadour, the Scots Traditional Music Hall of Famer will be joined at the lovely Highland Arts Theatre tonight by two exciting trios. Past Artist in Residence John Doyle hits the stage with fellow Irishmen Mick McAuley on accordion and Oisin McAuley on fiddle while the ever-versatile fiddler, piano player, and dancer Troy MacGillivray teams up with Fiddle Champion Caitlin Warbelow, and guitarist Jake Charron.
