The Cow Bay Céilidh is a long-standing tradition in Port Morien during Celtic Colours.Typically an early sell-out, the Tuesday night concert has established itself as presenting a most entertaining mix of songs and tunes in the beautiful little seaside community on the Southeastern shore of Cape Breton where the only thing more magical than the view of the bay, is the community’s welcoming spirit and generous hospitality. To be fair though, there’s a very real chance the sounds coming from the stage this evening may give even that magic a run for its money. Father and daughter duo Dirk and Amelia Powell have strong roots in the bayous of Louisiana and the mountains of Kentucky where, like here in Cape Breton, musical traditions run deep. J.P. Cormier and Dave Gunning have long been musical compadres, performing together since the mid-‘90s, whenever they could manage it. An absolute treat on stage, this award-winning duo will leave you breathless with their splendid songcraft, stunning musicianship, and comical banter. Exploring tunes and songs from Irish and American folk traditions, Rakish toes the line between concert music and session music. Tickets won’t last long for this one so be sure to get yours early.
