The St. Peter’s Canal, located on the south coast of Cape Breton Island in Richmond County, connects the Atlantic Ocean to the sparkling Bras d’Or Lake. Construction began in 1854 and took 15 years to complete. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1929 and Celtic Colours has been presenting a concert by the Canal since 2002. Tonight’s Concert By The Canal will be an energetic one with fiddle tunes from Cape Breton and Scotland, a wealth of songs from the Newfoundland tradition, and a hometown songwriter. Chrissy Crowley will handle fiddle, with Jason Roach on piano, for the Cape Breton set of tunes while Ryan Young's musical focus will revolve around the traditional Scottish tunes that he is injecting fresh and innovative ideas into. Con O’Brien’s impeccable musicianship, vocal prowess, and Newfoundland songbook will keep one and all entertained. And multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Myles Davidson will tie it all together when he takes the stage with his father Harold, a founding member and longtime bass player for Brakin’ Tradition.
