Cape Breton’s Mira River has inspired tribute in song and is known the world over for its beauty and the hospitality associated with the surrounding area. Making music is an age-old tradition along the Mira River where there’s always time for a cup of tea, or something a little stronger, and a lively exchange of songs, tunes, and stories. This afternoon’s matinee features tunes from the traditional repertoires of Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, Shetland, and Scandinavia. Gillian Head is a fiddler whose sound exemplifies the spirit and drive of traditional Cape Breton music. Jason Roach plays piano with unparalleled intensity and a style all his own. Gillian and Jason will share tunes duty with BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2023, Amy Laurenson and a genuinely unique voice in contemporary Scottish Trad music, guitarist Miguel Girão. Award-winning Cape Breton singer-songwriter Jordan Musycsyn is a masterful storyteller who writes folk y songs about life and love with pathos and humour. Jordan is joined by Em Dingwall on bass and harmony vocals. If you’ve never been to the famous Mira River, take advantage of this opportunity to get out and soak in the scenery and serenity of this magical place.
