A perennial favourite at Celtic Colours, the Pipers’ Céilidh never fails to thrill pipes enthusiasts of all descriptions. This afternoon’s concert takes place at Colaisde na Gàidhlig / the Gaelic College in beautiful St. Ann's. The only institution of its kind in North America, piping has been taught at the College for many years. Each year the Pipers’ Ceilidh showcases a variety of pipers and piping styles and this year’s line- up offers more of the same with a pipes and piano duo, a folk trio featuring pipes, and a full-on competition and performance pipe band on the bill. Matt MacIsaac was born into a piping family in St. Peters, Cape Breton, and started playing whistle and pipes when he was 10 years old. Matt has toured and recorded with Natalie MacMaster and Beòlach, and competed as Pipe Major of the 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Pipe Band, a grade 2 competitive band out of Borden, Ontario. Matt will be accompanied by Beòlach band-mate Mac Morin on piano. Award-winning instrumental folk trio Assynt will take the stage featuring former BBC Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year finalist David Shedden on pipes and whistles. The Cape Breton Island Pipe Band will round out the afternoon.
