Award-winning songwriters Dave Gunning and J.P. Cormier are two of the most respected musicians on the Canadian folk music scene. And when they get together on stage, hang on to your seats because you’re in for a ride. Their stunning musicianship, heartfelt song-writing, and quick sense of humour reinforce the bond these two share. Whether they’re collaborating on new songs or rearranging old folk standards, singing harmonies or covering instrumental breaks, Gunning and Cormier will leave you in awe of their ability to find the spaces in what the other is doing. They blend together so well, in fact, that it’s often hard to tell who is singing and playing which parts. Drawing from the wells of Norwegian and Swedish fiddle music, Elise Boeur throws in fistfuls of arcane influences and emerges with a multi-faceted sound grounded in Nordic traditions. Adam Iredale-Gray is a versatile guitarist and fiddler with deep roots in Irish traditional music and a commitment to innovation. Elise and Adam performed at Celtic Colours in 2021 with Aerialists and they’ve returned this year as a duo. Hirondelles’ dedication to their Acadian heritage comes through in the way they remain faithful to the lyrics and melodies of the old songs from Chéticamp in their own familiar and original style.
