Overlooking the Bras d’Or Lake, Boisdale is one of those Cape Breton communities where traditional music, language, and dancing have remained central to the way of life since Scottish immigrants arrived in the early 1800s. The community still gets together regularly to celebrate their culture, and dances and concerts are held year-round at the Boisdale Fire Hall. Celtic Colours has been raising the roof in Boisdale since 2002 and that tradition continues this evening with songs and tunes from Irish, Scottish, Gaelic, and Cape Breton traditions. Teresa Horgan and Donogh Hennessey share a rich musical partnership shaped by years of collaboration and the vibrant traditional music scene in Dingle, Ireland. Teresa’s expressive vocals and flute playing are beautifully supported by Donogh’s masterful guitar work, creating intimate, evocative performances that speak from the very soul of Irish music. Award-winning duo Dawn & Margie Beaton, from the cultural centre of Mabou, will be joined by Antigonish County’s Jackie Dunn MacIsaac for a blast of tunes that’ll have you raring to hit the dance floor, Cape Breton style. Multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Décota McNamara and Jeremy Finney will have you spellbound by their intricate mix of original and reimagined tunes and songs. With a nod to the location and setting, Hannah Krebs will share some Gaelic songs to round out tonight’s show.
