Award-winning songwriters Dave Gunning and J.P . Cormier are two of the most respected musicians on the Canadian folk music scene. But something happens when you put them together. It’s almost as if they amplify each other’s already formidable talent and you end up with so much more than the sum of the parts. Dave and J.P . will be teaming up for tonight’s Whycocomagh Gathering so prepare to hang on to your seats for the stunning musicianship, heartfelt songwriting, and quick wit to come. This is the duo’s only performance at the festival this year so tonight’s the night if you want to see for yourself. It’s also your last chance to see Flook and experience their rare blend of fiery technical brilliance, delicate ensemble interaction, and bold, adventurous musical imagination before they continue on with their 30th anniversary tour. Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach, from Westward the Light, make music filled with spontaneity, sensitivity, and freedom. Inspired by the past and their surroundings, the duo makes music that’s rooted in tradition, while stretching its possibilities through improvisation and imagination. The Whycocomagh Gathering is one of those Celtic Colours concerts that has its own long history, having sold out shows since the Festival began. This will be a very interesting and entertaining night of music. Get your tickets early.
