It’s Canadian Thanksgiving which means the long-awaited long weekend is here, and Cape Breton Island’s transformation into its stunning autumnal state has begun. A refreshing crispness fills the air as the leaves start to change from green to vivid hues of yellow, orange, and red, and friends and family gather to share gratitude and thanks. What better way is there to celebrate the occasion than by having a night out for some music, dancing, and maybe a drink or two among friends? One of the Festival’s few licensed concerts, the Celtic Cabaret at Membertou Trade and Convention Centre has established itself as an opening weekend tradition during Celtic Colours. Tonight’s concert welcomes Saltfishforty back after six years for some songs and tunes from the Orkney Islands in the north of Scotland. This powerhouse duo will make a fan out of you with their entertaining presence and virtuosic playing. As Saltfishforty is just arriving for tonight’s show, the Morgan Toney Trio will be on their way after the concert. If you missed them last night in Wagmatcook, this is your last chance to see Morgan and his trio and take in their unique, award-winning, Mi’kmaltic style. Prince Edward Island’s beloved trio Vishtèn will add a generous helping of high-energy Acadian songs and tunes to the mix and that will be that. With table seating, a relaxed atmosphere, and a lineup designed for a good time, Celtic Cabaret is the perfect way to spend your Sunday evening.
