Richmond County singer-songwriter Cyril MacPhee was a cherished voice in Cape Breton music—loved by audiences and admired by fellow musicians for both his songs and his quick wit on and off the stage. His varied musical influences, from the Beatles to Harry Hibbs, showed up in his songwriting and musical style, resulting in a truly unique blend of folk, country, and Celtic music. He also loved to play Beatles and Bee Gees songs, just for himself. Cyril performed at Celtic Colours 21 times between1998 and 2019, including four times with his daughter Haley, and was Artist in Residence in 2012. In 2016, he was teamed up with legendary Scottish singer-songwriter Archie Fisher in the Dangerous Duos concert and their rendition of Buddy MacDonald’s song “We Remember Y ou Well” was featured on that year’s Celtic Colours Live compilation. He performed with the popular power-folk group Brakin' Tradition off and on for 30 years releasing three albums with the band and two as a solo artist. Cyril performed for audiences throughout Canada, the USA, and in Scotland and Ireland, sharing stages with a who’s who of East Coast artists including The Rankins, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Guthro, Ashley MacIsaac, Gordie Sampson, J.P . Cormier, Buddy MacDonald, and Dave Gunning. This special tribute concert brings together those closest to him—family, friends, and fellow musicians—for an evening of remembrance through music.
