Cape Breton’s Mira River has inspired tribute in song and is known the world over for its beauty and the hospitality associated with the surrounding area. Making music is an age-old tradition along the river, where there’s always time for a cup of tea, or something a little stronger, and a lively exchange of songs, tunes, stories, and a few laughs. This afternoon’s matinee features traditional Cape Breton and Scottish tunes and a selection of songs from the Cape Breton, Newfoundland, Scottish, Irish, and folk traditions. It will be such a joy to relax by the Mira and listen to some of the finest players and composers Inverness County has to offer when Kinnon, Betty Lou, and Andrea Beaton take the stage. Actually, with these players you might just find yourself on your feet, sharing a few steps! The rest of the afternoon will be all about songs. Donnie Campbell, who was inducted into the Cape Breton Music Hall of Fame earlier this year, will be joined by longtime musical partner Jinks O’Neill on bass, will share their vast repertoire of popular, obscure, rediscovered, and reinvented songs. If you haven’t made your way to the iconic Mira River yet, now is your chance to scratch it off your bucket list. Allister MacGillivray didn’t write a famous song about it for nothing.
