String Crossings is the brainchild of Cape Breton fiddle player, and Artist in Residence, Kimberley Fraser. While working on her degree in Violin Performance at Boston's Berklee College of Music, Kimberley was inspired to further explore the use of strings. Bringing together leading exponents of Cape Breton/Celtic, American Roots/Contemporary, and Nordic/Scandanavian string traditions, Kimberley will collaborate on arrangements of traditional and original tunes that highlight the similarities and celebrate the differences of the traditions. The ability of strings to bring us a complete sound--melody, harmony, rhythm and percussion--comes to fruition in this concert with string players from six countries.
