The lovely church in the highlands will come to life tonight with songs from Scotland and Newfoundland and some fiddle tunes born out of Ingonish itself. You can’t beat a setting like this for a group like The Once. The globe-trotting trio’s harmonies will ring out into the surrounding hills, wrapped up in the rich musical tapestry of their inspired acoustic arrangements. Scottish singer-songwriter Archie Fisher has worked with the likes of Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy, Silly Wizard, and Garnet Rogers during a career spanning back to the 1960s. His songs are well-known in the world of folk music, finding their way into the repertoire of many artists including Makem & Clancy, Fairport Convention and Stan Rogers. You’re sure to hear a few you recognize tonight. And in true Cape Breton fashion, we’ll have some tunes to tie it all together. Paul Cranford, Sarah Beck and Doug MacPhee are frequent collaborators and it’s a real treat to have them join us for this concert. It’s an evening of music sure to soothe your soul.
