They are the grass roots of our fiddle tradition and the keepers of our repertoire. For more than a generation, the Cape Breton Fiddlers’ Association has been dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Cape Breton fiddle music. Formed while preparing for the first Festival of Cape Breton Fiddling in 1973, the Association plays a nurturing role as well as a practical one, hosting workshops, publishing tunes written by members, and presenting the now annual fiddle festival. Members of the Association include professional and amateur players, from Cape Breton Island and abroad. They will be joined this afternoon by a very special guest. Russian violinist and composer Keyreel Raskolenko is a classically trained player who taught himself to play in the Cape Breton style. He visited Cape Breton in 2013, meeting up with members of the Fiddlers’ Association who were impressed with his technique and style. We are excited to have Keyreel return to perform at Celtic Colours.
Hosted by Colaisde na Gàidhlig / The Gaelic College
