When we introduced the Guitar Summit 20 years ago, the guitar was starting to find its way more into the mainstream of Celtic music. It seems like John Allan Cameron and Estwood Davidson had always been there, picking pipe tunes and accompanying the fiddle, but in the mid-1990s, the guitar took on a new popularity for playing tunes, as evidenced by the variety of players we’ve had on this stage. Although we’ve had many players join us for the Summit over the years, a few names keep coming back. J.P. Cormier, Dave MacIsaac and Scott Macmillan have been mainstays of this Celtic Colours favourite, and we’ve been lucky to be able to include the incomparable Tim Edey in the mix on a couple of memorable occasions. Tonight the multi-talented Allie Bennett will join the ranks as five of the finest swap tunes and licks at this annual must see concert. Hot tip: get your tickets early.
