Chéticamp is a culturally rich and vibrant Acadian community located along the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island’s northwest coast, where the south-east winds, known as les suêtes, blow strong onshore and dancing is practically second nature. For 20 years La Swing du Suête dance troupe, comprised of students at L’École NDA in Chéticamp, has been promoting and presenting Acadian Cape Breton dance here at home and across the Maritimes, in Quebec, Alberta and Louisiana. Christine Doucette is Artistic Director and handles choreography along with Sylvie Doucette, both former dancers with the troupe. Bon Débarras will bring their energetic music and dance from Quebec to this afternoon’s celebration. And Andrea, Véronique, Douglas and Lawrence, all well- versed in the Acadian and Québécois dance traditions, will provide the tunes and tempos needed for these dancers to show their steps
