It’s no coincidence that Celtic Colours begins on the Thanksgiving weekend. We have much to be thankful for in our corner of the world. On this Thanksgiving Monday, we’ll travel down the road to D’Escousse, a lovely Acadian village on Isle Madame, to celebrate our Canadian and Cape Breton French roots with some Acadian and Québécois music and dance. Bon Débarras, a trio from Montréal, will bring their fun and energetic fusion of Québécois folk music and traditional step dancing. Cape Breton singer-songwriter Cyril MacPhee’s Acadian roots are on his mother’s side, and he will showcase both his own songs and songs from the Island. Décota McNamara, from just up the road in Richmond County, will also share some songs with us tonight. And Leanne Aucoin’s new band The Narrows will certainly pull from their Acadian, Chéticamp and Quebec influences with fiddle at the forefront.
